On August 19, three large-scale Vietnam new projects in the fields of energy, technology, and aviation broke ground simultaneously. This milestone reflects the nation’s strategic direction in developing modern factories, advanced digital infrastructure, and international-standard aviation facilities.
1. Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion – Securing Southern Vietnam’s Energy
On August 19, the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the Tri An Hydropower Plant Expansion Project in Dong Nai Province.
Currently, the Tri An Plant is the largest hydropower factory in Vietnam’s South, with four turbines generating 400MW and an annual output of 1.76 billion kWh.
Key details of this Vietnam new project:
- Total investment: 4 trillion VND (220 billion JPY).
- Capacity: Two new turbines, adding 200MW.
- Timeline: First turbine operational from Q3/2027, second turbine from Q4/2027, full completion by Q4/2027.
- Expected output: 113 million kWh annually.
The expansion project will ease peak-hour electricity shortages, optimize national grid efficiency, reduce operating costs, and contribute to CO₂ reduction. This makes it a flagship Vietnam new project in renewable energy.

2. Viettel Launches R&D Center and Modern Data Center
Vietnam’s leading telecom operator Viettel, under the Ministry of Defense, broke ground on two major Vietnam new projects on August 19, 2025: the Viettel R&D Center and the An Khanh Data Center.
Viettel R&D Center in Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park:
- Investment: 10 trillion VND (USD 560 million).
- Scale: Six smart buildings on 13 hectares.
- Focus: R&D, prototyping, and production in defense (UAVs, radar, satellites) and civilian technology (AI, big data, cloud computing).
- Completion goal: By 2030, accommodating 2,500 high-skilled engineers.
An Khanh Data Center:
- Investment: 17.5 trillion VND (USD 980 million), 1.9 hectares.
- Capacity: 60MW, Tier 3 certified (Uptime Institute).
- Timeline: Phase 1 operational by Q2/2026, full hyperscale expansion by 2030.
- Features: AI-driven management, five-layer security, advanced cooling technology.

Together, these Vietnam new projects strengthen Viettel’s leadership in digital infrastructure and bring Vietnam closer to becoming a regional technology hub.
3. Vietjet Air Builds Aircraft Maintenance Center at Long Thanh

Low-cost carrier Vietjet Air has begun construction of an Aircraft Maintenance Center at Long Thanh International Airport, Dong Nai Province.
- Total investment: USD 100 million (14.7 billion JPY).
- Capacity: Up to 10 aircraft maintained simultaneously.
- Standards: International-level infrastructure.
- Purpose: Supporting Vietjet’s fleet while also serving other domestic and international airlines.

This Vietnam new project commemorates the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day. It is set to become a key “aviation factory in Vietnam,” enhancing the competitiveness of the national aviation industry.
As Long Thanh International Airport develops into the most modern airport in Vietnam, the new maintenance center will play a crucial role in future operations.
Vietnam New Projects Driving the Future
These three Vietnam new projects breaking ground on the same day mark a significant leap forward:
- Energy security through modern hydropower plants.
- Digital transformation with R&D and hyperscale data centers.
- Aviation infrastructure at international standards.
Vietnam is not only strengthening its position as a manufacturing hub but also emerging as a leader in clean energy, advanced technology, and aviation services in the region.
